Sea-Ice Associate Scientist

A sea ice associate scientist position with full-year base salary support is open in the Oceanography Section of the Climate and Global Dynamics Laboratory (CGD) of the National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR) in Boulder, Colorado. The primary function of this position is to serve as a community liaison for the CESM Polar Climate Working Group (PCWG). The successful candidate will actively participate in a new sea ice model consortium, provide support for university community scientists to incorporate new developments into the CESM3 sea ice model, contribute to CESM project software engineering activities, and contribute to analysis of polar climate related aspects of model simulations.

Rank: This is an associate scientist position and will be filled at the Associate Scientist II level.

Qualifications: A Bachelors degree with Associate Scientist I equivalent experience in oceanography, atmospheric science, applied mathematics, computational science, engineering, or a related physical science. Masters or PhD preferred. The applicant should have an advanced understanding of numerical modeling for geophysical applications, a strong knowledge of software engineering and strong programming skills, advanced knowledge of data analysis software such as NCL, IDL, Matlab, or Ferret, effective oral and written communication skills, and the ability to effectively collaborate and communicate with external collaborators.
